Gestures and actions

Everything you would do with a finger is in the Gestures submenu of the menu. The gesture happens at the point or item you selected.

Gesture What it does
Tap A single tap. Also on the main menu.
Double Tap Two quick taps.
Tap and Hold Hold the tap for 0.5, 1, 2, 3, 5 or 10 seconds.
  • Drag starts a drag at the selected point. Switchify asks you to select where to drag to, then shows Confirm, Reselect and Cancel so you can check the end point before it runs.
  • Hold and Drag holds the item first, then drags it. Switchify asks where to move the held item.
  • Swipe Up, Down, Left and Right swipe from the selected point.
  • Custom Swipe lets you select the end point yourself, with the same confirm step.
  • Pinch In zooms out; Pinch Out zooms in.
  • Scroll Up, Down, Left and Right scroll the content at the point.
  • Auto Scroll (under Settings → Gestures → Scrolling Settings) repeats a scroll gesture on a timer until you press a switch, with a delay of 0.1 to 10 seconds between scrolls.

Finger Mode in the Gestures submenu performs every gesture with 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 fingers, for apps that use multi-finger gestures.

These save reopening the menu for the same gesture again and again. Only one can be on at a time.

  • Gesture Lock: the next gesture you choose repeats each time you press Select, without reopening the menu, until you turn the lock off or it times out.
  • Re-arm Gesture Lock: turns gesture lock back on after each gesture, ready to choose another.
  • Gesture Repeat: repeats the selected gesture on a timer until a switch is pressed. First Repeat Delay (0 to 10 seconds) and Gesture Repeat Delay (0.25 to 10 seconds) are under Settings → Gestures → Advanced Gestures.

All three can be toggled from the menu or from a switch set to the matching action.

A gesture pattern is a recorded sequence of gestures that plays back with one selection. Patterns hold up to ten gestures.

  1. In the Gesture Patterns submenu, choose Start Recording.
  2. Perform the gestures you want, one after another, through the menu as usual.
  3. Open the Gesture Patterns submenu again and choose Save Recording, or Cancel Recording to discard it.

Saved patterns appear in the same submenu. Settings → Gestures → Gesture Patterns is where you rename, reorder and delete them, and where two options live:

  • Manual Pattern Progression: advance through the steps by pressing a switch instead of on a timer.
  • Stop Pattern on Switch Press: any switch press stops the pattern that is running.

The Device submenu covers Recent Apps, Notifications, Open Assistant, Quick Settings, Lock Screen, Power Dialog, Take Screenshot and Volume Control. Home and Back are on the main menu. Any of Home, Back, Recent Apps, Quick Settings, Notifications and Lock Screen can also be given to a switch directly; see Connect a switch.
